Italian keyboard: type accented vowels
Type Italian accented vowels, including à, è, é, ì, ò, and ù. Switch to uppercase to write È and other capital accented letters.
Click a character to insert it at your cursor. Select text first to replace it. Switching languages keeps your text.
How to use this Italian keyboard
Write or paste text in the editor. Click a character to insert it at your cursor, or select text first to replace it. Copy text copies the whole editor. Clear removes it; Undo can restore the last change.
Example to try
Il caffè è già pronto. Perché non vieni?
Choose è or é
The keyboard provides both grave and acute accents. For example, caffè and perché use different accented e characters. Choose the spelling you need; the editor does not substitute one accent for another.
Write capital accented letters
Turn on Uppercase to insert È, É, À, Ì, Ò, or Ù. This inserts the actual accented letter rather than a letter followed by an apostrophe. Existing text stays unchanged.
Use the editor for complete text
Type with your normal keyboard and add accents where required. Additional acute or circumflex vowels are included for names and specialist text. Copy the result into your document, email, or message.
Other ways to enter these characters
On a Mac
In supported Mac apps, hold a letter key and choose its accented form. Availability varies by app.
In Microsoft Word for Windows
In Word for Windows, press Ctrl + grave accent, release, then e for è. Press Ctrl + apostrophe, release, then e for é.
Official instructions: Apple’s accent-entry guide and Microsoft’s Word accent shortcuts.
Before you leave
The editor does not translate, proofread, or save your writing between visits. Copy text you want to keep before refreshing. If copying is blocked, select the text and use your device’s Copy command.
