French keyboard: type accents, ç, and œ
Write French text with accented vowels, ç, œ, and French quotation marks. Keep writing in one editor, then copy the complete text.
Click a character to insert it at your cursor. Select text first to replace it. Switching languages keeps your text.
How to use this French keyboard
Write or paste text in the editor. Click a character to insert it at your cursor, or select text first to replace it. Copy text copies the whole editor. Clear removes it; Undo can restore the last change.
Example to try
Ça va très bien. Où est le café ?
Choose é, è, ê, or ë
These are different characters. Use the button matching the spelling you need: café, très, fête, or Noël. AccentPad inserts characters; it does not decide which spelling is correct.
Add ç and œ
Use ç for words such as français and garçon. The œ button inserts a single ligature, useful for cœur and sœur. Uppercase mode also offers Ç, Œ, É, and È.
Quotation marks and spacing
The « and » buttons insert French quotation marks. They do not add spaces automatically. Add the spacing your document or publication requires, then review the text before copying.
Other ways to enter these characters
On a Mac
In supported Mac apps, hold a letter key and choose its accented form. Availability varies by app.
In Microsoft Word for Windows
In Word for Windows, press Ctrl + apostrophe, release, then e for é. For ç, press Ctrl + comma, release, then c.
Official instructions: Apple’s accent-entry guide and Microsoft’s Word accent shortcuts.
Before you leave
The editor does not translate, proofread, or save your writing between visits. Copy text you want to keep before refreshing. If copying is blocked, select the text and use your device’s Copy command.
